Marna didn't do anything wrong; it started as an introduction, but she literally couldn't let go.

Marna always greets her coworkers with a hug, "we have a huge hug culture here, hugs before bugs" is the motto at their coding startup in Halifax, Canada. However, on Tuesday morning, the simple greeting became a sticky situation. Gary, as a practical joke, dabbed super-glue on the lapels of his jacket and sleeves. When Gary went in for their morning hug, she soon found she was unable to pull away. "It was awkward, to say the least," explained Marna, " it was 25-minutes of terrible coffee and garlic breath." Gary lost his job after this "practical joke" and is currently unemployed.
However, some good did come out of this disgusting event. We reevaluated our "personal-space" policy at our company to include three rules.
1. Consent: you should ALWAYS ask before you hug someone.
2. Hugs are informal and not professional: never replace a handshake with a hug, unless you know your client VERY WELL or ask before you hug them.
3. Hugs should not be gendered: Be consistent, if you decide to embrace, hug everyone. Don't shake hands with men and hug women. RESPECT.
